Mission Statement

Neuranext exists to empower Australia’s young people with the interest, knowledge and skills to become active participants in the A.I. powered economy of the near future. By providing highly engaging interactive curriculum aligned STEM Incursions about Artificial Intelligence Neuranext seeks to spark student interest in A.I. & A.I. powered robotics. Designed by founder and NSW teacher Adrian Tyson our programs are graded to suit Years 3 to 6 in Primary and Years 7 to 12 for High School. It is critical to engage and inspire school students from very young to instil their interest and confidence around STEM subjects at school. Neuranext is building the nations future workforce capacity one inspired student at a time. Neuranext equips high school students with connections to industry and concrete steps they can take to begin skilling up in A.I. so that they can take advantage of the rapidly changing A.I. economy. Neuranext programs are always delivered by fully qualified teachers with Working with Children Checks, Neuranext has comprehensive public and product liability insurance as well as risk assessments that are supplied prior to any booking. Neuranext has been hosted by Microsoft Store, ANSTO Discovery Centre, The Powerhouse Museum and hundreds of schools including Barker College, Liverpool Girls High, Hilltop Road Public School and The Scots College.

High School Incursions

Sparking students interest in STEM early is critical and Neuranext’s highly engaging interactive incursions effectively introduce students to the science and technology behind Artificial Intelligence. How do self driving cars see? How do robots balance without falling or bumping into things? How do I know is something is an A.I. fake or not? Will A.I. take over the world?

All of these questions are answered with live practical examples. Students are asked to drive the race track with an old remote control car, using their brain, like every car driver in Australia, then we see if we can apply what we have learnt about how A.I. Computer Vision works to get a self driving car to autonomously drive the track on it’s own. Sometimes it doesn’t work too well and we explore what is happening with the data and see if we can correct the problem.

Students are themselves the data for our live computer vision A.I. object detection and human pose estimation, sparking questions about what is going on with the mathematics when they notice their friends aren’t the same percentage of a person as they are.

Neuranext brings the latest in cutting edge A.I. powered robotics into the school, showcasing robotic capabilities like computer vision, balancing when knocked, LIDAR for obstacle avoidance, GPT Vision and Humanoid walking. We question students about the use cases for these tools now that they are no longer science fiction, getting them thinking about how they may solve problems in society and industry.

We explore generative A.I. and demonstrate how students must alter their critical thinking in a world of fake media as well as showcasing what young people can create on their own with these tools.

Our Careers Industry partner is Harrison.AI, a world leading A.I. Radiology company based in Sydney. Their Asia Pacific Leader Tony Saliba discusses with students the kind of skill sets employers in the A.I. space are looking for, both technical and soft skills. Tony gives them concrete steps they can take to engage with employers and this leads into the A.I. Microskills and Certifications Neuranext links students with.

Research from Oxford Economic Papers has shown that if a job applicant has an official A.I. Certification on the front page of their resume their job interview rate nearly doubles! Neuranext leaves students with these actionable, free and online certifications to begin their A.I. learning journey.

It doesn’t matter what career your students may be interested in, Artificial Intelligence is going to play a role and ensuring students are engaged and skilled up around the technology will boost their career prospects.

This incursion is focused on student understanding of the key scientific and technology of Artificial Intelligence and not a how to use A.I. tools in school guide.

Curriculum Links:

  • SC4-WS-06: Working scientifically Analysing data and information: uses data to identify trends, patterns and relationships, and draw conclusions. Neuranext’s program explicitly teaches how A.I. converts unstructured data into structured data including how A.I. identifies trends and patterns for lane following and numeral identification within the MNIST data set as some examples. We cover the basics of deep learning neural network and transformer architecture.
  • SC5-WS-05: Working scientifically Processing data and information: selects and uses a range of tools to process and represent data. Neuranext’s program exposes students to strategies used by A.I. to process and represent data, giving students key knowledge on how these systems operate.
  • TE4-DIG-01: Demonstrates technological literacy to safely interact in digital environments. One major goal of the program is to empower students with key understanding of how A.I. works and the responsible use of the technology, with discussion around misuse cases included.
  • CT5-EVL-01 : Understands how innovation, enterprise and automation have inspired the evolution of computing technology. In the program we explore the evolution of A.I. from concept to fruition via the repurposing of the GPU and the availability of training data, the two colliding to empower modern deep learning.
